Holiday Food May Not Always Be Good for the Heart, But at Bake Ability, It’s Always Good for the Soul

During December’s family-friend visitation season, its somewhat de rigueur to arrive for a visit with a sweet or savory goodie. Purchasing them at Bake Ability, Buckingham, not only ensures you get something wonderful, it also helps you do something wonderful. Diana Cercone explains in Bucks County Magazine.

Bake Ability, in the Buckingham Green Shopping Center, is the brainchild of Paula Fasciano of Pipersville.

Her 21-year-old son Matthew, diagnosed as a toddler with a genetic disorder characterized by mild-to-moderate intellectual disability, needed employment. Instead of finding one, she created one.

She purchased a Buckingham location and, with the help of TNS (a differently-abled nonprofit support resource), opened it as a bakery and hired her unique staff.

The goods available run the gamut from traditional sweets — marble brownies, lemon bars, scones — to savory snacks called pizzettes, miniature pizzas on a puffy dough in either red or white varieties.

Fasciano has nothing but accolades for her unique crew and encourages other employers to hire likewise.

“Sometimes employers don’t understand how valuable this population can be,” she said. “They are loyal, dedicated, and hard-working. They might need more mentoring or training initially, but the investment would be worth it.”
